This is the center spread layout for our fall issue of MIZZOU. It is the intro to our football preview and will be printed as a vertical double truck, so readers can tear out the spread and hang it on their wall. Who would want three ominous college athletes staring them down everyday?
Dealing with athletics is such a pain in the ass. I had to abandon my original idea because they wouldn't provide the three players all at the same time. So, designer Blake Dinsdale pieced this together from four separate shoots. I think it turned out nicely none-the-less.

B.J. troubles
I was getting worried that this story wasn't, well, a story. Yes B.J. graduated from an inner-city school in Saint Louis. Yes the graduation rate in Saint Louis County is 50%. Yes the county school district lost its accreditation. But, B.J. had the support network to help him through all of that. What I didn't know, was how instrumental this support group was in his success. B.J.'s mom, Sarah, suffered an aneurysm, from which she has obtained long-term effects. If it was not for the Saint Louis Educators program that B.J. was involved in, he would not be where he is today.
I am struggling to break into the relationship with B.J. and his mom. He is a teenager , who doesn't want to appear different from anyone else. He acts distant and quite when Sarah's around, but I can sense the bond in each of there hearts.
Here are a couple of photos from my last trip to Saint Louis. I am slowly working into some moments. I just need to break into B.J.'s relationship with Sarah.
wish me luck.

you or your memory
Going through some old stuff and came across pictures from the Mountain Goats show here in Columbia last fall.
I wish I had a voice – in any respect.

B.J.
This is B.J. Spann, 18. He is preparing to graduate from Gateway Technical High School in St. Louis. His dream is to design cars. His goal is to get into MU. His reality is low ACT scores. I am going to follow him on his journey the next couple of months.

workmanship
My photography of late feels convoluted, covered by fog, tarnished by workmanship. My pictures are voiceless and too careful.
I want to stand on my own two feet with an open heart and see clearly. I want to take pictures that tell the truth. I don't want to be scared. I don't want to bore.
Help....
